Password Protecting a Directory

A directory on www.und.edu may be password protected by using a .htaccess file. The .htaccess along with a second file called password.ht contain the information needed to block access to a directory within your web space unless the correct login and password are entered. You may use any text editor to create these files. Once both files have been ftp'd to the web server, the password is required to access the protected directory. Sample Page.

Step 1: Enter your Information

Complete the following information. Once submitted, the text that needs to be included within the password.ht and .htaccess files for your directory will be displayed.

What is your www.und.edu account name? e.g. itss
What would you like the prompt to say? e.g. This page is password protected, please login.
What is the login name you would like to use for the password protected directory? (Choose something other than your account name, e.g. 101student.)
Enter the password you'd like to use (Choose something other than your password, 6-8 characters in length.)
Please enter the password again.
