The
Associate Vice President for Research:
- Reviews
all grant proposals and contracts submitted
to external agencies, and if they meet with
University policies, signs for the University.
In signing, the Director attests to University
compliance with a myriad of assurances required
by funding agencies.

Interacts extensively with faculty, especially
those involved in research and the submission
of grant proposals to external funding agencies.
-
Assists faculty in linking research interests
across departmental lines and organizational
boundaries.
-
Works with Grants and Contracts Administration
to negotiate terms and conditions of contracts,
grants, and cooperative agreements, particularly
as they relate to intellectual properties,
copyrights, patents, and publication of research
findings.

Awards grants to faculty/staff for various
needs relating to research and creative activity.
-
Gives presentations on the activities and
services of RD&C.
- Presents
workshops concerning grantsmanship-related
issues.

Serves on many University committees; e.g.,
Senate Scholarly Activities Committee (SSAC),
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
(IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee
(IBC), Radiation Safety, Associate Deans for
Research, etc.).

serves as the Research Information Associate
for RD&C and is responsible for maintaining the external award/proposal databse. She is the primary contact person for questions regarding:

Michelle
Bowles
Institutional Review Board (IRB) Coordinator
Michelle
serves as the Coordinator for the Institutional
Review Board (IRB). Her responsibilities include:
- Coordinating
the activities of the IRB.

Assisting the Board in updating IRB policies
and procedures.
- Developing
educational opportunities for IRB members,
students and investigators at UND.
-
Ensuring that research at UND using human
subjects is conducted ethically and responsibly.

Coordinating the activities of the Institutional
Biosafety Committee (IBC).
-
Outreach activities, ensuring that UND faculty,
staff, and students are aware of their obligations
regarding research using human subjects.

Janet
Elshaug
Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administrative
Secretary
As
the Administrative Secretary for the IRB, Janet
supports the IRB Coordinator and the IRB by:
- Preparing
and distributing the IRB correspondence, minutes,
reports, etc.

Receiving IRB proposals and forwarding them
to the appropriate reviewers.

Maintaining the IRB database.
-
Also supports the Institutional Biosafety
Committee (IBC).
