University Learning Center's
If You Must Cram . . . . |
| |
- Make choices. You will not be able to cover all the necessary material; choose broad topics and general concepts and study completely.
- Have a plan. Your schedule is especially important now to identify what you will study when; develop a study plan and use it.
- Condense your material into summaries or flash cards. Find quick ways to access your chosen material so that you can review it at every opportunity (at lunch, between classes, on breaks at work).
- Use memory techniques. Develop word associations, jingles, any workable method to help you retain information and ideas.
- Recite, Read, Write, Listen. Talk out your material to yourself, to your study partner, to the mirror, to a tape recorder. Using different senses to help you remember is very effective.
- Relax. Take short study breaks and use the relaxation exercises suggested to help increase your focus and decrease your stress.
- Don’t SHOULD on yourself. Turn your negative statements into positive encouragement using the attached Self-Statement worksheet.
