Mission Statement

The mission of the University Learning Center is to provide instruction and services that will:
  • support students in the development of skills necessary for their effective performance in and positive adjustment to the learning environment.
  • contribute to student retention.
  • support faculty and staff in their efforts toward improvement of classroom teaching and other instructional activities.

To fulfill the mission of the University Learning Center, it is our goal to:

  • provide programs that teach skills which maximize the learning potential, academic performance, and adjustment of students.
  • enable students to apply those skills they are developing to actual classroom learning situations.
  • provide faculty with services and resources for improving teaching and supplementing classroom instruction.
  • offer individualized and self-paced academic assistance programs.
help students develop positive attitudes and confidence in their ability to learn.

To accomplish these goals, we strive to:

  • keep learners as the central focus of the program and services. (Learners include students of all ages who are matriculating on a full-time or part-time basis, as well as faculty and staff.)
  • assist the University in maintaining standards of academic excellence through programs and services to students and faculty.
  • base programs on the philosophy that learning is influenced by cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, thus involving the whole person.
