The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of North Dakota invites applications for the Ann and Norman Hoffman Professor of National Defense/Energetics. We are anticipating hiring at the Assistant/Associate Professor for a start date of August 15, 2009. This position was created by a recent donation from an illustrious alum, Norman Hoffman, who had a highly successful career in the field of energetics. At UND we strive to achieve excellence as a department in both teaching and research. One of our strengths is the commitment to building a strong rapport between students and faculty. We maintain small class sizes, an open office hours policy, and a commitment by all faculty to helping all students to maximize their potential. We provide an environment that fosters mutual respect and maximizes learning. The department was awarded the 2005 University Award of Excellence in Research and the 2007 University Award for Excellence in Teaching. One of our strengths is extensive departmental and interdepartmental research collaboration.

Applicants for this position should possess B.S. and Ph.D degrees in chemical engineering or a closely related field. Duties will include a blend of teaching and research. A passion for teaching excellence in core chemical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses is necessary. The successful applicant will have the spirit and desire to develop and lead energetics engineering projects and the ability to engage graduate and undergraduate students anxious to acquire, document and study existing valuable energetics data. At the request of the Hoffman’s, one responsibility of this position will be to develop a repository of technical information in the field of energetics. This is a new position, and the applicant will have the flexibility to develop a new program using expertise and resources provided by Mr. Hoffman. Some Departmental service duties will be required.

Due to the recent success of our sustainable energy research program, we are looking to fill non-tenured positions in Chemical Engineering.
