The University of North Dakota invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing.  The Dean is a champion for expanding the research productivity of the college, enhancing an already strong commitment to American Indian programs, as well as promoting inter-professional opportunities and community scholarship.  UND (http://www.und.edu), a rapidly expanding doctoral institution, is making strategic investments in health-related education/research programs.  Additional information about the College of Nursing is available at http://www.nursing.und.edu 

Academic Leadership: This position reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The College of Nursing, founded in 1909, currently offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, in Community Nutrition, and in Dietetics; Master’s programs with specializations in Nurse Anesthesia, Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, Public/Community Health Nursing, Gerontology Nursing, and Nursing Education; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing, designed to prepare nurses for research and faculty roles. 

Research Leadership: The College of Nursing recently completed construction and opened the NIH-funded Northern Plains Center for Behavioral Research, and faculty research focuses on vulnerable and diverse populations.  Significant opportunities exist for developing collaborative programs with the USDA/ARS Grand Forks Human Nutrition Center, the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and other university and community partners. 

Qualifications for the Position:

  • Earned doctorate (PhD, DNSc or equivalent) from an accredited institution
  • Masters degree in nursing if doctorate is not in nursing
  • Eligible for North Dakota nursing licensure
  • Distinguished record of academic leadership and accomplishment in teaching, scholarship and extramural funding consistent with appointment to the rank of professor
  • Strong leadership and administrative skills
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate the expansion of research
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a maturing development program
  • Demonstrated commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and student body
  • Commitment to shared faculty governance
  • Experience with online or distance education

Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Excellent benefits including TIAA/CREF retirement.  Health insurance for employees and family members is fully paid by the University.

North Dakota licensure a a registered nurse is required, certification preferred. Must have current and relevant practice experience.
