For Families

Welcome to the Adapt Peer Education website!

We understand that you are entrusting our university with the education and well-being of your loved one. As your student arrives on campus, it's a time of new experiences and making memories that will last a lifetime. For some students, this includes experimentation with alcohol and/or excessive use of alcohol and its possible side effects.

You are probably wondering what you can do to help your student navigate this new experience with the fewest negative repercussions. Research suggests that one of the most important things you can do during this time is stay in communication with your student. You need not pry into all of the details of his/her new experience; rather, just providing a supportive presence for your loved one may decrease the likelihood of negative experiences.

At the same time, a discussion about your student's decisions regarding the use of alcohol can be helpful. Please click on the "Talking With Your Student" link for possible discussion questions.

While alcohol usage can be detrimental to your student's college experience, it is not all "gloom and doom." Our latest surveys show that most UND students use alcohol once per week or less, and that most do not drink to excess a majority of the time.

We at UND are committed to helping your student attend the highest degree of success possible! Please use the resources provided here and at our office to assist your family in this success.

To find out more about alcohol and common myths relating to alcohol, please see the links under "For Students" on the left side of this page.
