HISTORY The Northern Plains Biological Symposium began in 2003 by a group of students and faculty at North Dakota State University (NDSU). This group initiated the first symposium with several goals in mind. Those goals are to facilitate an open discourse on relevant topics in the field of biological sciences, to provide opportunities for local undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty to present their research in a professional setting, and to expose graduate presenters to a friendly, intellectual audience. The symposium is also designed to help local undergraduate students become exposed to aspects of a graduate and/or professional life in the biological sciences. We hope that the symposium will help bring in more graduate students to not only the area, but also to the field of biological sciences. The BGSA feels that this symposium provides a stepping stone for research in and around the area. Overall, we wanted to create an atmosphere where people in the area who are interested and excited about the field of biology could gather and share ideas. The symposium attempts to bring together area researchers of all levels. |
SPONSORS The Biological Graduate Student Association (BGSA) at the University of North Dakota is proud to be one of the many sponsors for the Fourth Annual Northern Plains Biological Symposium. The symposium is scheduled for April 15, 2006 on the University of North Dakota Campus. We would also like to thank our other sponsers: the Biology Department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School , EPSCoR, the Presidents Office, and the Provost/VP Academic Affairs. |
