Research Interests:
Primary research interests center on the various insects and ticks that can transmit disease organisms to humans and wildlife. Specific interests center on: 1) malaria parasite development within vector mosquitoes using a population dynamics approach, 2) potential of filarial infections to enhance arboviral infection of mosquitoes and 3) the effects that host blood components, such as antibody or drugs, can exert on both vector arthropods and the growth characteristics of pathogens developing within vector arthropods.
Graduate Students:
Christina M. Brewer - graduated with M.S. degree in Spring 2006. Thesis Title: "The potential for microfilarial enhancement of West Nile virus transmission in the Red River valley of North Dakota and Minnesota".
Shree Kanta S. Poudel - graduated with M.S. degree in Summer 2006. Thesis Title: "Rodent malaria: Population dynamics of early sporogonic development within the mosquito vector, Anopheles stephensi".
Gabriel Garman - M.S. student. Thesis Title: "Malaria: Quantitative analysis of sporozoite production and movement into mosquito salivary glands".
