Undergraduate Admission Requirements

At the present time, Criminal Justice is the area of study for about 300 majors at UND. Additionally, numerous students choose Criminal Justice as a second major or as a minor to compliment their primary area of study. As an area of study, the majority of majors are seeking careers in the Criminal Justice field which includes probation, parole, corrections, law enforcement and allied community service fields. Some examples of jobs accepted by recent graduates of the UND Department of Criminal Justice include Probation/Parole Officer, Correctional Officer, Police Officer, State Highway Patrol, U.S. Customs, U.S. Boarder Patrol, O.S.I., U.S. Immigration Service, Youth Worker, Juvenile Officer, Victim Advocate and also with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

In addition to those students who seek an immediate career upon graduation, many of our majors successfully go on to graduate studies or law school. Recent graduates now in graduate schools include placements at UND, NDSU, Michigan State University, University of Utah, and the University of Minnesota. We believe, as the above examples illustrate, that your choice of UND for Criminal Justice Studies offers a positive opportunity for whatever your careers interest.

Students planning to pursue a major or minor in Criminal Justice should formally declare their interest as soon as possible though the College of Arts and Sciences and then they can contact their Criminal Justice Advisor to plan a program of study. To be formally admitted, students must have completed 45 total credit hours with a minimum overall grade point average of 2.70, must have completed CJ 201, CJ 210, Soc 252, and Soc 253 with a minimum grade point average of 2.70 maintain a minimum of 2.70 overall in the major, and a minimum GPA of 2.70 overall. Failure to meet these requirements may result in the student being placed on probation in the major for one semester. Failure to maintain the requirement for two consecutive semesters may result in dismissal from the program.

We are pleased of your interest in UND. We hope you found this information useful. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact Wendelin Hume by phone at 701-777-4001.
