Put the "U" in UND Access - It's Everybody's Business

To Report Access Problems - call the ADA Line (also the Facilities 24 hour number). Everyone is encouraged to report disability access problems, e.g., snow in front of a doorway, automatic door not working. 777-2591 (voice) or 777-2796 (TDD)

Phone Communication with Deaf People - N.D. Relay is a 24 hour phone service for calling people who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have speech impairments. A Communication Assistant will answer and relay the conversation between the two parties. Call 9-711, if on campus; 711, if off campus.

For the locations of TDD's or TTY's (text messenging devices), see the first page of the Students/Staff/Faculty directory.

Interpreter or Real Time Captioning - Deaf and hard of hearing students have a right to request communication services for meetings and any other UND activity. Call Disability Services for Students(DSS) 777-3425 (voice/TDD) for assistance in scheduling.

Signage and Publications - All materials produced by UND offices must be provided in an accessible format, if requested. It is good practice to always use easy to read fonts, e.g., Arial or Verdana with high contrast between the print and paper color. Call DSS for assistance in producing other formats 777-3425.

Accommodation in the Workplace If an employee, call Affirmative Action 777-4171 (voice/TDD). See the web site for the accommodation request form: http://www.und.edu/dept/aao/
If a student employee, call DSS 777-3425.

Accommodation in the Classroom or Other Disability Related Questions - call DSS 777-3425.

Students with Temporary Medical Conditions, e.g., using crutches, hand in a cast - These students are expected to make their own arrangements whenever possible. For example, students could ask their roommates to bring food from the cafeteria or borrow class notes from a friend.

Students are responsible for discussing classroom needs with their professors. University faculty may be able to help as a "courtesy service." Often, faculty can arrange to get copies of notes or provide a scribe to record test answers.

Student Health can approve use of temporary accessible parking permits or permission to ride the lift equipped van to class.

Students may be asked to show a doctor's note verifying the temporary condition and length of time the services will be needed.

Students may also call DSS at 777-3425 for advice and assistance.
