The University of North
Dakota offers a variety of tutoring opportunities,
all of which are free to UND students.
The Student Success Center is
located on the second floor of the Memorial Student
Union, room 201, phone 777-2117. The Center provides
drop-in tutoring in a variety of areas, including
math, science, foreign language, accounting,
anatomy, psychology, statistics and economics.
Check the University Learning Center (soon to
be changed to Student Success Center) web site www.und.edu/dept/ULC
for a complete list of courses and times. If tutoring is currently not offered
in the subject you need, ask the staff at the Student Success Center if they will add it.
The Mathematics Learning Center,
Witmer Hall, rooms 310 and 312, offers individual
and group tutoring. Students at all levels
are welcome. It is also a place for students
to study and discuss mathematics problems and
use computers and software similar to those
available in the Math Computer Lab. Check the
web site http://www.und.edu/dept/math/learningcenter/lchours.html for hours.
The Writing Center ,
Merrifield Hall, room 12, provides assistance
with all aspects of writing papers, including
getting started, organization, developing ideas,
style, editing and proofreading. Writing Center
consultants are trained to offer positive, constructive
responses to writing in various disciplines and
in various draft stages. Drop in or call 777-2795
for an appointment. Look them up on the web at
www.und.edu/dept/wac.
American Indian Student Services is
located at 315 Princeton Street (across from
Hancock/Squires Residence Halls). The Learning
Lab offers free, drop-in tutoring Sunday through
Thursday evenings in a variety of challenging
course areas. Call 777-6329 for further information
or check their website at www.und.edu/dept/aiss.htm.
Non-Native students are welcome.
Academic Departments may also
provide tutoring or help sessions. Ask your instructor
or call the department to inquire.
Private tutoring is another option
if the student either has the money or is working
with an agency that would pay for the tutor. Students
working with Vocational Rehabilitation can discuss
this possibility with their V.R. counselor. Academic
departments and individual professors often have
names of capable students who will tutor for an
hourly fee.
