The College of Education and Human Development is pleased to announce that Jennifer Montgomery, '90, '92, '00, will be receiving the Young Alumni Achievement Award from the UND Alumni Association this Homecoming, during the Sioux Awards banquet.
Jennifer J. Montgomery, originally from Carrington, ND, has completed the first year of doctoral studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Funded through a presidential fellowship, Jennifer is focusing on issues of school reform and professional development. She developed these interests during her career as a teacher at Bismarck High School and as an advocate and teacher leader in the North Dakota Education Association.
Jennifer, a national board certified teacher, was North Dakota Teacher of the Year in 2003, and one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year. She also received the Milken National Educator Award in 2001, and she received the NEA Foundation National Award for Teaching Excellence in 2004.
Jennifer holds two bachelor's degrees and one master's degree from UND. She will finish a master's in education policy from Harvard in 2007 and will continue working on her doctorate in education policy, leadership, and instructional practice. Jennifer resides in Cambridge, Mass.
