UND's 11th President: Dr. Robert Kelley

Dr. Robert Kelley, dean of the College of Health Sciences and professor of medical education and public health at the University of Wyoming since 1999, will be the 11th president of the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks .

The North Dakota State Board of Higher Education selected Kelley after interviewing him Monday, February 4, at the UND Memorial Union River Valley Room. Kelley accepted the position Thursday, February 7 and will start July 1, 2008. He succeeds Dr. Charles Kupchella, who was named UND's tenth president on April 20, 1999, and who announced his retirement in January 2007. Larry Nybladh to Lead Grand Forks Schools

Dr. Larry Nybladh will be the 18th superintendent of schools for the Grand Forks Public School District starting July 1. Larry is a highly accomplished educator and administrator, and currently superintendent of the Moorhead Public School District in Minnesota.

Larry received two degrees from UND including a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1980, and a Master of Education degree in 1986 in educational administration. He has taught as an assistant professor for the Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education and Human Development. He received a Ph.D. from Cornell University. Faculty Honored with Teaching Awards

Two of the College's faculty were honored with Excellence in Teaching Awards during the UND's annual Founders Day celebration, February 28.

Dr. Mark Guy, associate professor of Teaching and Learning, received the UND Foundation Award for Individual Excellence in Teaching.

Jeffrey Sun, assistant professor in Educational Leadership, received the UND Foundation/Lydia and Arthur Saiki Prize for Graduate or Professional Teaching Excellence. Click here to read more!


2008 Alumni Award Recipients Are Honored in March

The College of Education and Human Development is pleased to announce the 2008 Alumni Achievement Award recipients. These recipients will be honored at a dinner on March 14, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Grand Forks, with a social at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45. The recipients are:

Dr. Mavis Kelley (posthumously) and Jerry Wenzel – Teaching and Learning

Dr. Gary Forrest – Counseling Psychology and Community Services

Dr. Karen Gayton Comeau (formerly Swisher)– Educational Leadership

Dr. Leander Russell McDonald – Educational Foundations and Research

Debbie Thompson – Social Work

Clay Jenkinson As Thomas Jefferson for Special Presentation March 14

Clay Jenkinson, a cultural commentator, humanities scholar and author, will be on campus celebrating UND's 125th Anniversary as Thomas Jefferson, his alter ego. Jefferson will speak about the founding of his own University of Virginia, Friday, March 14. Later in the day, Jenkinson will take part in a panel discussion on the future of education in North Dakota. Both events are sponsored by the UND College of Education and Human Development and are free and open to the public. Click here to read more about the events!

 

UND's Boyd Named 2008 Recipient Of Prestigious Henry Havig Award For Community Service

Dr. Robert Boyd is a double graduate of the College of Education and Human Development. He received a Master of Education in 1974 and a Doctor of Education in 1979. He is the Vice President for Student Outreach Services at UND. Click on the link to read about Dr. Boyd and this great honor.

 

CEHD and UND Visit the Mile-High City

February 13th, the College of Education and four other schools held a Denver alumni social in Downtown Denver. Over 60 alumni and friends came to visit, network, eat and meet UND's incoming president, Dr. Robert Kelley. Overlooking the Colorado skyline, and the lights of downtown, everyone had a fantastic time. Sponsors of the event were College of Education and Human Development, College of Nursing , College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Public Administration and School of Engineering and Mines. University Children's Center's 2nd Annual Silent Auction March 29

The University of North Dakota Children 's Center (UCC) will host their second annual silent auction on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at University Place on the UND campus from 7:30 – 9:30 pm.  The event's theme “Imagination at Hand – Art & Literacy” showcases four books written by UCC children.
