Financial Aid Eligibility
-
Students must be admitted as
degree-seeking.
-
Students must be enrolled at
least half-time (6 credit hours).
-
Students enrolled in a
graduate or professional program are automatically considered to be
independent and are not required to report their parents’ income on the FAFSA.
-
Financial need is determined
by subtracting the Expected Family Contribution (calculated from the financial
information on the FAFSA) from the Cost of Attendance.
-
The Cost of Attendance is
determined by the University based on actual tuition/fee charges and average
expenses for books/supplies, room/board and other personal living costs.
-
Students who have
extraordinary living expenses, child care expenses, health care expenses, etc.
may have those costs considered in the Cost of Attendance by completing a
Budget Appeal form, available in the Student Financial Aid Office.
-
Students who are determined to
have financial need are eligible for Federal Work-Study and Federal Stafford
Loans.
-
Students may also be eligible
for Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans and/or Alternative Educational Loans,
which are not awarded based on financial need.
-
Federal Work-Study positions
are available throughout campus and can often be related to the student’s
program of study.
Note:
Students who have outstanding GSL, SLS and/or Stafford Loans borrowed before
7/1/87 may be required to maintain full-time enrollment (12 credit hours) for
deferment purposes, check with the holder of your loan(s) for more information.
International students should contact the International Centre for information
on financial assistance programs.
Students
enrolled in Distance Learning Programs must follow the same financial aid
eligibility criteria as students enrolled in classes on campus.
Tuition waivers are considered
to be a part of a student’s financial aid package; therefore, they may replace
some or all of a student’s subsidized Stafford Loan eligibility.
Stipends are not considered to
be financial aid: they are reported as income and may affect future financial
aid eligibility.
Students must apply for tuition
assistance programs directly through the
Graduate
School or the academic department.
Students considering enrollment
in a combined undergraduate/graduate program should take note of the financial
aid implications indicated on the Combined
Programs page.
