Veteran Services > Benefits Certification Process

Getting Started

If you are attending UND and have never received Veterans Education Benefits:

Complete the appropriate application form.  Information on required forms can be found under each education benefit's description on the left.  Links for most required forms are on the left under 'Forms'.

Applications are designed to obtain the necessary information to determine eligibility for benefits.  The application must be returned to the UND Veteran Services Office along with a copy of your Notice of Eligibility or your DD214.

If you received benefits at another school before attending UND:

Complete a 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training; the form is available to print out by clicking on the link on the left under 'Forms'.  You will then need to return the form to the UND Veteran Services Office.

After the Department of Veterans Affairs has processed your application, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility.  The certificate will indicate the type of benefit, the number of months of benefits remaining, and the date they expire.

Once you are determined eligible for benefits, the Veteran Certifying Official at UND will prepare an enrollment certification based on the number of credits you are registered for, and submit the certification to the DVA.  Processing takes anywhere from six to ten weeks before payment authorization is made.

Change in Student Status

All students receiving their education benefits are required by law to keep the UND Veteran Certifying Official (carolanson@mail.und.edu) informed of the following:

  • UND VA Enrollment Worksheet (click here to fill out and submit each semester after you have registered)
  • Enrollment Status
  • Any credit changes or withdrawals
  • Change in degree or program
  • Address changes
  • Change in dependents
