The UND history department prides itself on having the strongest history MA program in the region. It is the only department in the nation still offering the DA degree, which is designed specifically to provide highly qualified teachers for community and four-year colleges. Together with the North Dakota State University history department in Fargo, the department offers the only Ph.D. degree in history in the four-state region of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming .
Members of the UND history faculty have well-deserved reputations on the local, regional, and national levels for their good teaching, sound research, and well-received publications. Students will find the department's faculty members to be congenial and helpful, with a genuine interest in them, and a desire to assist them in completing their degrees and preparing themselves for rewarding careers.
