An Essential Studies Program for First Year Students:
General Information

For more than 20 years, the Integrated Studies Program has provided a unique way for first year students to fulfill their University Essential Studies (general education) requirements.

Rather than taking separate courses in a large lecture bowl setting, the Integrated Studies Program provides students an opportunity to:

  • Engage in small, student-centered discussion style classes
  • Gain required credits in Essential Studies courses
  • Integrate topics from classes together as well as with their daily lives
  • Be exposed to new methods of critical thinking and problem solving
  • Develop a constructive relationship with professors and other students

Information on the University's Essential Studies requirements can be found by clicking here.

Below is an illustration of the Essential Studies requirements for undergraduates, and credits fulfilled during a typical fall semester in ISP.
