How to FTP Using WS_FTP


WS-FTP iconStart WS_FTP.
 
Enter the connection information into the Session Properties. Enter the following into the Session Properties:
1. Profile Name: A name of your choosing for these settings.
2. Host Name/Address: the name of the computer, e.g. www.und.nodak.edu.
3. Host Type: Leave at Automatic detect or choose the type recommended for the computer you are connecting to.
4. UserID: Enter your user name for the computer you are connecting to.
5. Password: Enter your password.

If you need to specify a startup directory, proceed to the next step, otherwise, Click OK.


 
To specify startup directories, click the Startup tab on the Session Properties window. To specify a startup directory, Click the Startup tab and enter the directory (path) as the Initial Remote Site Folder. The example shown is for a departmental web space on the UND web server.
Local System (PC) is on the left, Remote Site (computer connecting to) is on the right. Once the connection is made, the local PC information is displayed on the left, and the remote host information on the right (directories on top, files on the bottom.Double click on the directory names to change directory
Select the file to transfer, choose ASCII or binary, and click the arrow to transfer. To transfer a file from your PC to the remote host:
1. Locate and select the file on the PC (local system) side of the window.
2. Choose the appropriate transfer mode (ASCII for text and Binary for others).
3. Click the arrow (-->) to transfer the file.
Note: you may also double-click the filename to start the transfer.

A status box will appear. Once the transfer is complete, the filename will appear in the Remote Site info, if it doesn't appear, try click the Refresh button. 

To exit the FTP session, click the Exit button.

Note: To transfer a file from the remote host to your PC, select the filename on the Remote Siteinfo, check the appropriate transfer type, and click the <--.
