Adobe Reader: The “Find” Toolbar Feature
Adobe Reader is a FREE program that lets you open, view, search, and print PDF files.
Adobe Reader is viewable and printable on any platform (multiplatform) - Macintosh, Microsoft Windows, etc.
PDF: (Portable Document Format) is a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else.
Why Use The “Find” Toolbar versus the Search/Binoculars? The Find Toolbar Feature highlights the “first” instance of the item in the document; whereas, the Search/Binoculars lists “all” instances of the item. § Find Toolbar Feature stops after it locates the first instance. § Search/Binoculars searches the entire document before completing the search process (much longer process dependent upon the document size). The Find Toolbar Feature has the Find Previous Button and/or Find Next Button to move forward or backward. |
The “Find” Toolbar Feature:
When you have a PDF open in the Adobe Reader view; you can at this time place the Find Toolbar on your toolbar area.
To place the “Find” Toolbar Feature on your menu:

The Find Toolbar is a “floating” toolbar. This means you can move it around on your screen by clicking on the blue tile (title bar) and dragging to a location. You can also “dock/anchor” your toolbar in the main menu area. This will be the suggested process, since this will ensure the Find Toolbar will be there for you to use next time you open Adobe Reader to view a PDF file.
After docking/anchoring the Find Toolbar in the main menu area, it will look like this: |

To use the Find feature: (A PDF file/document must be open to search)

· Type in what you are looking for; press Enter · Then select the Find Previous Button or Find Next Button · You can also use the Find Options from the drop-down list to specify your search criteria |
