Downloading Macintosh Applications from the Web

Freeware and Shareware software is available for downloading from the Web. These instructions will provide the basic steps for downloading such software.

Using your browser (Firefox, Safari or Netscape), locate the file you want to download.

The following instructions are for how to download Fetch (Macintosh FTP software) from the UND archive at: http://itss.und.edu/software.html, choose "Download UND Software.".

Software available for download. A listing of the software will display. Scroll down to the Macintosh section.
Click the link to download. Click the Fetch link to begin the download process.
Open the .sit file with Stuffit. A dialog box open and gives a number of options on processing the file.
Double-click the .sit file. If you choose to "Save to Disk" you will need to locate the file (in this example, Fetch4.0.3 Folder.sit) and double-click it to unstuff the file.
Install your program if needed.

Once you have unstuffed the file, the Fetch application is installed and you may throw away the .sit file if you wish. If the file you downloaded was an installation program, you would need to double-click the installer and go through the installation process.
