A Partitioned Data Set contains one or more sequential data sets grouped together. A sequential data set, containing records that are ordered sequentially, is called a member of the partitioned data set. A partitioned data set is commonly referred to as a PDS. A TSO library is an example of a PDS.
Allocation of a library (Partitioned Data Set):
Option P ISPF/PDF Menu from the North Dakota University System Main Menu
Option 3 Utilities from the ISPF Primary Option Menu
Option 2 Data Set from the Utility Selection Panel
In theData Set Utility panel Type:
Option ===> A (Allocate new data set)
Project XXXXX Your five character user id
Group PRIVATE
Type LIB
Press ENTER
Option ===> A
ISPF Library: Project . . XXXXX Group . . . PRIVATE Type . . . . LIB |
An Allocate New Data Set panel will come up. The only information that should be on the panel is the data set name. Blank out all other fields. Press ENTER
Command ===> Data Set Name . . . . : XXXXX.PRIVATE.LIB
Management class. . . . (Blank for default management class) Storage class . . . . . _____________ (Blank for default storage class) Volume serial . . . . (Blank for authorized default volume) Data class . . . . . . (Blank for default data class) Space units . . . . . (BLKS, TRKS, CYLS, KB, MB or BYTES) |
The Data Set Utility panel will show Data Set allocated in top right corner of screen.
