Lakota is the language of the Teton (Titunwahe) people of the Lakota/Dakota/Nakota nations. In the nineteenth century, the Teton or Lakota were one of the most powerful Native American societies on the northern Great Plains, and their language is one of the native languages of North Dakota.
Lakota language classes are offered at UND through the Department of Indian Studies, which offers courses on Native American history, cultures, and contemporary issues.
We invite you to learn more about the language and the classes offered at UND.
