Steven Finney
Lecturer in Norwegian
Foreign Language Placement/Credit Testing
BA, University of North Dakota
As an undergraduate, Steve Finney studied at Bondelagets Folkehøyskole in Mysen, Norway, where he lived and studied with farmer’s kids (with a few confused punk rockers thrown in) from the length and breadth of Norway. He has returned regularly to Norway, most recently as a visiting faculty member at the American College of Norway, in Moss, in the spring semesters of 2006 and 2009. Besides teaching in Languages, he has taught courses for English, Honors and Humanities, has served on the faculty of the Integrated Studies Program, and has worked as a one-on-one online Norwegian instructor for the Berlitz Company. He has also worked as a freelance writer and editor, and his short stories have appeared in literary journals. His interests include, among many things, translating short fiction, especially the stories of Ingvar Ambjørnsen. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and their rambunctious Brittany spaniel, Willie.
