Melissa Gjellstad’s research concentrates on issues surrounding notions of “family” in contemporary Norwegian literature. She is interested in questions of masculinity studies and feminism, particularly focused on questions of motherhood and fatherhood and how they are represented in fiction. Gjellstad has written about the Norwegian authors Kyrre Andreassen, Anne Oterholm, Tore Renberg, Hanne Ørstavik, and others.
Gjellstad teaches courses in Norwegian language, literature, and culture.
