INTRODUCTION

ACQUISITION: These additions to the Maxwell Anderson Papers were deposited in the Orin G. Libby Manuscript Collection between February 1984 and April 1985 by Laurel Reuter, North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks, North Dakota; the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas - Austin; Dan Rylance, Department of Special Collections; J. F. S. Smeall, English Department, UND; George Starcher, former President of UND (Acc.#85-1397 through 85-1400).

ACCESS: Available for inspection under the rules and regulations of the Department of Special Collections.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

These additions to the Anderson Papers consist of a wide variety of materials from a number of depositors. Included are:

1) Photographs of the Anderson Family received from the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin in February 1985. Photograph numbers 1-20.

2) Photographs of set designs for plays and of Anderson and his family which donated by Laurel Reuter in February 1984. Photograph numbers 21-71.

3) A letter interview with Lela A. Chambers, sister of Maxwell Anderson, conducted by Dan Rylance, Head, Department of Special Collections, Chester Fritz Library.

4) Research notes on Anderson for a brochure compiled by J.F.S. Smeall, UND Professor Emeritus of English, and deposited in April 1985.

5) Correspondence between the Anderson Family and George Starcher, former President of the UND, regarding Anderson's donation of his manuscripts, 1956 - 1959. The correspondence was deposited by George Starcher.
