The addition to the Lydia Jackson Papers includes three types of materials. Jackson was a member of Epsilon Sigma Omicron, an educational sorority and project of the Federation of Women's Clubs whose purpose was to foster and encourage the literary spirit among club women. As a member, Jackson was enrolled in reading courses administered by the Extension Division of the University of North Dakota. The addition contains her book reviews and critiques of those reviews by Beatrice Johnstone, administrator of the courses written in the late 1940's and early 1950's.
Also included in correspondence from members of the Fargo and Medora branches of the National League of American Pen Women dating primarily from 1966 - 1971. The letters relate concerns about the organization and describe the publication and type of poetry to be included in Jackson' a booklet of poems, A Peace Garden of Verses. There are also post-cards from 1940 - 1956 regarding the publication of her poetry and her acceptance as Regent of North Dakota for the Midwest Federation of Chapparel Poets in the mid-1940's.
Lastly, the addition consists of seven tapes which are not transcribed. They are interviews of Jackson or her husband, Arthur Jackson. One tape describes the botulism outbreak in Grafton in the early 1930's. Two other tapes are interviews by the North Dakota Bi-centennial Committee.
The addition to the collection was deposited Elizabeth Fagerholt, March 8, 1985.
