Other charges by SIL

Pickup at the airport: $10; at bus or train station: $5.

A key deposit, anticipated to be $30 per outdoor key and $40 per room key, is charged at the beginning of the summer and refunded when keys are returned.

Late application fee of $40 for applications completed after May 1, payable at time of registration.

Late registration fees of $20 per day (maximum $75) for registration after classes begin.

Charges by UND

Graduate student application fee $35 (no charge for undergraduates).

UND ID card: $15 for initial card (usable for more than one summer); $10 for replacement if lost.

Summer session parking fee: approximately $12.

Student Health Services at UND will assess charges for visits to the University clinic; many insurance plans cover this charge.

Students from outside the U.S. and Canada are required by UND to purchase a particular health insurance policy for the summer session, unless they can provide proof of adequate health insurance that is valid in the United States. (The cost is approximately $72 per month for 3 months.)

Except as noted, all charges are payable at the time of registration at the beginning of the summer. Checks should be made out in US dollars to the "Summer Institute of Linguistics". (We are sorry, we cannot accept credit cards.)

Details on housing and meals (nine weeks)
Adults $1010
Adults (meal plan only, if living outside the SIL dormitory but eating in the dining room) $690
14-17 years $760
6-13 years $500
2-5 years $330
0-1 years (if not in same room with parents) $170

A housing deposit of $100 per adult is due when applying for space in the dormitory. (This deposit is credited toward the total bill for housing and meals. It is refundable if application is canceled before May 1.)

The rates listed above assume that adults and teens are participating in the group work program, contributing approximately 1 hour of work per day cleaning in the dorm or helping out in other ways, in order to keep housing costs down. Those living in SIL housing who choose not to participate in this program are charged an extra $390.

Anyone living in the dormitory is normally expected to participate in the dining plan. The dormitory does not have adequate facilities for people to cook for themselves.

UND charges about $30-35 for bedlinen service for the summer. (Participants may choose to provide their own linens instead.)

See also the separate information on housing and meals.
