Michael Torke holds that it is not the musical materials themselves that are important, but the syntax. He has arrived at his own unique musical language, using not only major and minor sonorities, but even repeated two- and three-chord functional harmonic progressions. Although the movement Green does not employ rock rhythms, Torke's music mixes classical and rock styles with the repetition of minimalism.
