General
Education Longitudinal Study
In Fall 2000,
UND launched a new, long-term study of its
general education program . Ten specially
trained faculty, funded by the Bush grant,
began conducting regular interviews with a
group of randomly selected students, whom
they would follow throughout the students'
careers at UND. In the interviews, students
were encouraged to talk about what they were
learning--more specifically, how and where
they were learning the content and thinking
skills we want them to learn as part of the
university's stated philosophy of general
education.
In Fall 2004,
the study team issued this report on the first
four years of the study, including preliminary
recommendations.
