the United States with one of the following visa statuses
are eligible to receive payments of honoraria and

- WB Business Visitor Visa Waiver
- WT Tourist Visitor Visa Waiver
These payments may be made only in the following
circumstances:

and associated incidental expenses (this
includes food and housing) for usual academic activities,
which last no longer than nine (9) days
at any one U.S. educational or research institution.
The non-resident alien also must not have accepted
honoraria and/or travel expenses from more than
five (5) such U.S. institutions within the previous
six months.
- Non-resident aliens may also accept reimbursement
of travel expenses if the same
criteria in the previous paragraph are met.
If you plan for the guest or visitor to be at the
University of North Dakota for more than nine (9)
days, then you need to contact the Associate Director

consulting, training, or demonstrating special skills
while at UND. The maximum duration of participation
for short-term scholars is 6 months.
A J-1 PROFESSOR or RESEARCH
SCHOLAR can teach, observe, or consult at
UND for a period of up to 3 years.
You should be aware that international guests and
visitors who receive honorarium payments, associated
incidental expenses and/or travel expenses are subject
to taxes imposed by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
