The UND - Karlstad
University Exchange Program
www.kau.se/eng/exchange/
Founded in 1977, Karlstad
University is one of the newer universities in Sweden.
Its modern facilities and technologies attract students
from a variety of countries and a wide range of disciplines.
UND students have several living options in the city
of Karlstad. The most popular accommodation is in
residence halls, situated only a few miles from the
university. Each student has their own living quarters
and shares a kitchen and living room with six to eight
others. Most residence hall rooms come completely
furnished. Other living options include housing in
private homes.
Location
Karlstad, population 80,000,
allows for easy excursions to Stockholm, Copenhagen,
and Oslo. The city hosts many cultural events throughout
the year including operas, ballets and plays. There
are several galleries and museums as well as cinemas,
restaurants, and dance clubs. In addition to the
urban attractions, Karlstad offers a wide range
of outdoor recreational activities - from canoeing
and sailing in summer to snowshoeing and skiing
in winter.
Courses
The university
offers programs and courses in the Humanities, Social
and Economic Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering
and Technology. A few of the new, expanding areas
of study include Media Studies, Innovation Management,
and professional education and training for the
paramedical professions. Exchange students will
take classes in English, but are encouraged to take
advantage of the course in Swedish language for
Foreigners. Students will receive letter grades
for all coursework completed at Karlstad University.
