ABBOTT
HALL (Chemistry) -- The building is named
in honor of Dr. George A. Abbott, professor emeritus
of chemistry. Dr. Abbott joined the UND faculty in
1910 as professor of chemistry and head of the department.
In 1948 he retired from an active administrative role
but continued to teach until 1952. He was the first
professional chemist on the UND faculty and actively
built the department to national recognition. Dr.
Abbott died in 1973 at the age of 98.
The building was constructed in
1961 and dedicated in 1962. In 1992 an addition to
the west side of the building provided more space
and in 1998 a renovation of the hall was competed
after delays from the 1997 flood.
