Basic Instructional Program (BIP)
About the BIP
The BIP consists of a variety of class offerings including individual sports such as swimming, boxing, and diving; dual sports like tennis and badminton; team sports including basketball and volleyball; and physical activity classes such as strength training, physical Conditioning, and fitness walking. Full and half term classes are offered between 8:00a.m.-3:00p.m. Monday-Thursday.
In addition to providing physical activity opportunities, the BIP is also designed to help university students gain the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that favor lifelong physical activity.
Course Offerings/Enrollment
Currently the BIP currently offers over 40 different courses. Interested students can go to the online class schedule in Campus Connection for a listing of all BIP classes offered in a given semester.
Select the link class search/browse catalog and choose the PXW department to see available classes. Students can enroll in BIP courses by clicking on enrollment in the left menu then click on enrollment add to add a course for the selected semester.
BIP Course Fee
A course fee of $30 is required for all PXW 100/BIP classes. This fee provides funding to hire instructors, purchase and maintain equipment, and for administrative costs above and beyond funding of the BIP Coordinator. Funding for the BIP Coordinator is provided by the College of Education and Human Development.
Instructors/Locker Rental
BIP classes are taught by NCAA division I coaches, graduate students, and activity experts from the community to offer students a wide range of basic instructional courses.
Locker Rental
Locker rental is available though the Aquatics Office in the Hyslop Sports Center (HSC) room 241, lockers that are available for rent are located on located on the south side of the HSC on the first and second floors. Call 777-4451 for prices and availability.
The Hyslop Sports Center
The Hyslop Sports Center (HSC) is home to the majority of the classes offered in the Basic Instructional Program (BIP). The “Hyslop” provides four basketball courts, an Olympic sized pool, sauna, hot tub, walking track, padded room for martial arts practice, 4 courts for volleyball, 4 courts for badminton and 11 racquetball courts that are open for recreational activities for both students and faculty .
