Announcing the 2009 Northern Lights Psychology Conference & Call-for-Papers/Posters

 

The Department of Psychology at the University of North Dakota will be hosting the 2009 Northern Lights Psychology Conference at the UND Memorial Union on Saturday, October 17. This year's keynote speaker will be Stephen Ceci, Distinguished Professor of Psychology, Cornell University. Dr. Ceci holds a lifetime endowed chair in developmental psychology at Cornell University. Dr. Ceci’s past honors and numerous scientific awards include a Senior Fulbright-Hayes fellowship and an NIH Research Career Scientist Award. His article in Psychological Bulletin was awarded the Robert Chin Prize from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues for the best article dealing with child abuse and neglect. Dr. Ceci has received the IBM Supercomputing Prize, three Senior Mensa Foundation Research Prizes for his work on intelligence, and the Arthur Rickter Award for his work on children’s testimony. Recently, he was given the Distinguished Lifetime Contribution Award by the American Board of Forensic Psychology and he is the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Lifetime Contribution to Science and Society He is the author of over 300 articles, books, and chapters. Dr. Ceci has appeared frequently in the national and international media, including: ABC's 20/20, NBC’s Dateline, ABC’s Nightline, ABC’s Good Morning America, PBS’s Frontline, CBS’s 48 Hours, PBS’s McNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, BBC, CBC's Fifth Estate, and numerous magazines and newspapers including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, Newsweek, and The London Times.

Students, faculty, and institutional researchers are encouraged to submit papers and posters of their recent research for this year's conference (October 9 deadline). Information regarding the format for submissions, registration fees, the conference luncheon, lodging, and the keynote speaker can be found at the conference web site (see links from sidebar). The conference program will be published online, October 13.
