Teaching
I teach classes at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
I spent the last six years as the department chairperson, which entailed a
decrease in my teaching load. Now that I am no longer chairperson, you can anticipate
seeing me instruct courses from the following list:
- Introduction to Psychology
- Educational Psychology
- Behavior Modification and Therapy
- Theories of Learning
- Readings in Psychology (online students only)
Advising
As a psychology major, you want to make sure that you not only meet the requirements for
graduation, but also take the courses that prepare you for the next stage of your life.
When you declare a major or minor in psychology (which is accomplished by going to the office
of the College of Arts & Sciences in Montgomery Hall), you will be assigned an advisor.
If I am your advisor, or if you simply want my advice, contact me to set up an appointment.
Email is the best way to get in contact with me (jeffrey.weatherly@und.nodak.edu ).
Research
My main research focus is on the factors that contribute to gambling behavior and I and my
research team study gambling in a controlled, laboratory setting. Recent studies have looked at
the influence of alcohol or nicotine on participants' play, the effect of the presence of other
gamblers, the result of providing accurate information about slot machines on subsequent
gambling, and the connection between temporal discounting and actual gambling behavior.
If you have an interest in serving as a research assistant for upcoming studies, please feel free
to contact me to discuss the possibilty.
