Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee March 31, 2006

1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on March 31 in Carnegie Hall, Room 102.

Anne Walker presided.

2. Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Joan Hawthorne, Wendelin Hume, Tom Rand, Tom Steen, Gary Towne, Anne Walker, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.

3. Tom Rand presented information regarding Washington States’ general education package. A transfer agreement of the general education package is being looked at by the Chancellor’s office. This agreement would be similar to the agreement we have with the Minnesota schools. Washington State requires only 6 credits in the communication area so there is some concern regarding a speech course. Other general education areas were similar to ours.

4. March 3 minutes were amended and approved.

5. Department updates. Social Work will be dropping their courses and adding new ones. There has been nothing from the Honors Department or Geology Department.

6. Joan Hawthorne asked members of the committee to review the draft of the University Plan for Assessment of Student Learning and Development.

7. Chair elections. Joan Hawthorne nominated Matt Cavalli for Chair of the General Education Committee for 2006-2007. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.

8. The next meeting will be April 21 from 2-3 p.m.

9. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
