Minutes of General
Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on March 3 in Carnegie Hall, Room 102.
Anne Walker presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Birgit Hans, Joan Hawthorne,
Lana Rakow, Gary Towne, Anne Walker, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. February 3 and February 17 minutes. Birgit Hans moved to approve the minutes from both meetings. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
4. Lana Rakow presented RHS 250, Geog 121, 121L, 161 and 262 for general education revalidation and moved approval of all. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Lana Rakow presented Geog 134, 134L and 151 for general education revalidation. Lana Rakow moved to accept a delay for Geog 134, 134L and 151 revalidations until two months after the courses have been taught the next time by a regular faculty member. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
6. Birgit Hans presented Sociology 110, 115, 250 and 340 for general education revalidation and moved approval of all. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
7. Birgit Hans presented Rels 100, 228, and 250 and Phil 101, 302, 304 and 399 for general education revalidation and moved approval of all. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
8. Birgit Hans presented Rels 101, 102, 120, 203, 216, 220, 230, 238, 300, 301, 305, 315, 320, 342, 345, 380 and 410 and Phil 215, 220, 283, 300, 301, 303, 309, 310, 320, 330, 370, 372, 373, 408 and 430 for general education revalidation. Birgit Hans moved for provisional approval with the proviso we receive direct assessment data two months after the next time the course is taught. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Lana Rakow moved to accept the Geography Department’s request to delete Geog 352 and 354 from the general education offerings. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
10. Gary Towne presented Psyc 111, 241, 250, 270, 360, and 361 general education revalidation requests and moved approval of Psyc 111, 241, 250, 270, and 360 and provisional approval for Psyc 361 with the proviso direct assessment data be submitted to the General Education Committee prior to the first General Education Committee meeting in September 2006. The motion voted upon and carried unanimously.
11. Department updates:
