Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on September 11, in Carnegie Hall room 102.
Matt Cavalli presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Olaf Berwald, Janet Buckmeier, Matt Cavalli, Sara Folkestad, Greg Gagnon, Birgit Hans, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Lana Rakow, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes
4. Revalidation subcommittees. Matt Cavalli will send an updated list of the revalidation subcommittees.
5. Revalidation workshop. There was good attendance at the fall workshop. A revalidation workshop will be planned for this spring around spring break time.
6. Frequently asked questions. Send questions to Joan Hawthorne and she will put them together and get the answers.
7. Web course listings/validations. There was discussion on the possibility of having a General Education web site with the official listing of the general education classes rather than the catalog. Matt Cavalli will check with the Provost’s Office.
8. Chair elect. The committee will designate a chair-elect for 2006-2007 at the next meeting.
9. Course validation/revalidation—Assessment of content. The question was asked “What is the General Education Committee’s role in validation/revalidation courses? Is the committee assessing the department’s definitions of critical thinking and approving the assessment or does the committee want to determine what critical thinking is? There will be more discussion on this topic.
