Minutes of the General Education Requirements Committee September 14, 2007
- A
meeting of the GER Committee was held on September 14, 2007, in the
President’s Room, Memorial Union, Ryan Zerr
presided.
- Those
present were Suzanne Anderson, Matt Cavalli,
Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Chuck Moretti, Lana Rakow, Tom Steen, and Ryan Zerr.
- Minutes
of September 7, 2007. It was moved and seconded to approve the
minutes, voted upon, and carried unanimously.
- Ryan Zerr presented to the Committee a compiled composite
statement that described the relationship between the GER and the
Essential Studies Steering Committee (SC).
There was a motion to approve and second. Discussion ensued. Based on discussion, John LaDuke moved to table the motion on the composite
statement.
- Ryan Zerr asked the committee to review the various tasks
that are to be completed by the Essential Studies Steering Committee to
implement the new ES program. He
requested that Committee members send input to him regarding any tasks
that need to be added. The members
are also to send any tasks that the GER “cherishes” and believes the GER should
complete. Ryan will compile the
information and e-mail it to the committee before the next meeting. Discussion will then occur regarding
responsibility for the various tasks for GER and SC. The Committee may then take up the
tabled motion regarding the relationship between GER and SC.
- Validation
for Humanities 212 was discussed.
There was a motion to approve and a second. The committee voted and the validation
was approved 8 yes and 1 abstain.
- The
two student petitions were addressed.
The Committee decided to act on them together. There was a motion to deny and a
second. The committee voted and the
two student petitions were denied unanimously.
- The
next meeting will be held on September
21, 2007, in Montgomery Hall.
- The
meeting adjourned at 4:05.
