Education Requirements Committee October 15,
2004
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on October 15, in Twamley Hall, Room 404. Wendelin Hume presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Matt Cavalli, Bruce Dearden, Patrick Haertel, Birgit Hans, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Tom Steen, and Connie Borboa.
3. The Committee reviewed the department assignments. Birgit Hans will work with Education and Human Development and Teaching and Learning. Patrick Haertel will work with Industrial Technology.
4. There was discussion on the revised revalidation form including the direct assessment wording and minor revisions were made. Mark Hoffmann moved to approve the form as revised. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously. (Revised form was e-mailed to committee members for review and put on the GERC web site.)
5. The revalidation workshop was discussed. Letters will be mailed out to all departments offering general education courses inviting them to the workshop. A form asking departments to identify which general education goals their class is attempting to meet will be sent at the same time.
Meeting assignments for the Revalidation workshop are as follows:
Mark Hoffmann – interpretation of data
Mark Hoffmann and Birgit Hans – examples of direct assessment
Tom Steen will talk to Ken Ruit to discuss assessment
Tom Rand will be asked to discuss the general education forms
Bruce Dearden will give introductory remarks
