Minutes of General
Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on August 17, in Montgomery Hall room 20.
Ryan Zerr presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Matt Cavalli, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Don Poochigian, Lana Rakow, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Introductions. Ryan Zerr announced that Charles Miller had resigned his position. Kathy Smart will be notified to find a replacement.
4. April 27 minutes. Lana Rakow moved to approve the minutes from the April 27 meeting. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Essential Studies Program. Matt Cavalli gave a brief overview of the Essential Studies Program. The Essential Studies Program requirements page will be posted on the general education web site along with effective dates.
Updated general education course lists will be posted yearly by June 1.
6. Meeting times. Members were asked to email Ryan Zerr with the times they are not available for this semester so a meeting time can be set up.
7. Revalidation liaison lists were handed out for this year. Please contact your departments as soon as possible.
List of carryover revalidation courses. The courses with asterisks indicate courses being offered this fall so information should be coming at the end of the semester. Copies of the assessment forms on file will be distributed to the liaisons responsible for the revalidation.

8. The General Education Task Force Committee has completed its work. There is an Essential Studies Steering Committee defining each of the distribution categories. Please contact Ryan Zerr if you would like to be on a subcommittee. This steering committee has an October deadline for defining the categories.
9. Tom Steen will be invited to attend the next meeting and asked to bring an outline of what the process for implementation in the future will be.
