Education Requirements Committee November 18

1. A meeting of the GER committee was held on Monday, November 18, in the Edna Twamley Room. David Pierce presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Chuck Moretti, Lila Pedersen, David Pierce, Tom Rand, and Tom Steen.
3. The November 4 meeting minutes were approved.
4. David Pierce reported on the following:
The 2001-2002 annual report was presented to University Senate and approved.
David Pierce will be attending the Arts and Sciences College Council meeting Thursday afternoon (November 21) to discuss GER revalidations.
An overview of the Richard Light video teleconference was given.
5. Engl 370/Anth370 general education revalidation. Dr. David Marshall will be submitting additional information.
6. Soc 110, 250, 253, and 340 were reviewed for Social Science general education requirements revalidation. Soc 250 and 340 are world cultures revalidations also. Lila Pedersen will take the requests back to the department for additional assessment information. Soc 352 and 354 were not reviewed. The applications were incomplete.
7. C J 201 was reviewed for Social Science credit. Wendelin Hume moved to approve the request with the understanding that future syllabi will include a more direct statement of GER goals. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
8. CSD 365 was reviewed for Social Science credit. Chuck Moretti will take the request back to the department and ask them to tabulate and summarize the results of their surveys.
CSD 32 will be discussed at the next meeting.
9. RLS 201 and 360. David Pierce will contact the department and request additional information.

Chuck Moretti reported on the direct assessment of general education requirements meeting.
