A meeting of the GER Committee was held on
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Greg Gagnon, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Adam Kitzes, John La Duke, Chuck Moretti, Don Poochigian, Lana Rakow, Ty Reese, Sukhvarsh Jerath, and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes January 18. John La Duke moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
4. Revalidations for Computer Science 289, Electrical Engineering 481 and Industrial Technology 300. Lana Rakow moved to approve the requests. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Workshop February 8. The dead line for sign up is February 5. Please sign up and let Anne Kelsch know which of these workshops you will attend.
6. Consideration of Special Emphasis Course Validation Criteria. Greg Gagnon moved to not approve the documents. The motion was seconded. Discussion.
Joan Hawthorne moved to amend Greg Gagnon’s motion to thank the subcommittees for their work and give them our philosophical support on the principles articulated. The GER committee will divide into subcommittees and invite the special emphasis subcommittees to meet and work with them with the intent to make any necessary revisions and bring criteria back for discussion and possible action at the next general education committee meeting. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with a vote of 9 in favor of and 1 opposed.
Vote on amended motion. Motion carried with a vote of 9 in favor of and 1 opposed.
7. Student petition for Charles Zidon requesting math, science and technology general education credit. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
8. Student petition for Sterling Price requesting the use of an American Sign Language course for arts and humanities credit. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Student petition for Michael Hilbrand. Petition to accept Music 150 for arts and humanities general education credit. Greg Gagnon moved to deny the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
