Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee October 21

1.      A meeting of the GER committee was held on Monday, October 21 in the Edna Twamley Room, Twamley Hall.  David Pierce presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Sara Hanhan, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Chuck Moretti, Lila Pedersen, David Pierce, Tom Rand, and Tom Steen. 

 

3.      Mark Hoffman moved to approve the minutes from the October 7 meeting as amended. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

4.      Richard J. Light (Harvard U) video teleconference scheduled for November 14 was discussed.

 

5.      Sara Hanhan and David Pierce briefed the Committee on the GELC retreat, Inn at Maple Crossing, October 11-12. 

 

6.      The Committee agreed to consider ASL I/II for Comm and A&H general education credit and ASL II for World Cultures credit per Tom Rand’s inquiry. 

 

7.      Study Abroad Program.  Tom Rand moved the following: Students who complete a summer or semester (a minimum of six credits) in the Study Abroad program will be deemed to have completed their World Cultures requirement.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

8.      Tom Steen presented modifications to the Student Petition form. There was discussion.  Chuck Moretti moved to accept the modified General Education Requirements Committee Student petition form.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.   

 

9.      The meeting adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
