A meeting of the GER Committee was held on
2. Those present at the meeting were Greg Gagnon, Devon Hansen, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, Don Poochigian, Lana Rakow, Ty Reese, Lori Robison, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes February 15. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.
4. Special Emphasis course criteria.
Diversity special emphasis criteria. The Committee reviewed the proposed changes to the diversity special emphasis criteria. Adam Kitzes moved to approve the document “as is” with the potential for minor clarification later. The motion was seconded. Ty Reese made a friendly amendment to change the wording in criteria 2 and 4. The Committee voted on the amended motion—2 in favor of and 5 opposed. The motion failed.
Sukhvarsh Jerath proposed adding the words “some of” to the following in the first line of criteria 2 and 4 and moved to approve this proposal. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with a vote of 4 in favor of and 3 opposed.
Oral and Advanced Communication special emphasis criteria. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the advanced communication and oral communication validation criteria without revisions. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried with a vote of 6 in favor of and 1 opposed.
5. Validation requirements for this year’s quantitative reasoning, diversity, advanced communication and oral communication courses. The Chair will contact departments and ask them to provide information about which of their courses fit within what areas.
