Minutes of General
Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on March 23, in Montgomery Hall room 20.
Matt Cavalli presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Olaf Berwald, Matt Cavalli, Greg Gagnon, Birgit Hans, Devon Hansen, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes
4. Memorandum from Chuck Miller, Chair of Philosophy and Religion. The department deleted six courses and replaced them with six new courses and asked that general education revalidation be transferred from the old to the new. Birgit Hans moved to approve the request.
The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Ryan Zerr presented revalidations for Indian Studies 330, 370, 371 and 380 for social science general education requirements credit and world cultures; Indian Studies 346 for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures; Indian Studies 121 and 201 for social science and arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures and moved to approve all of the requests. The motion was voted upon and carried with two abstentions.
6. Ryan Zerr presented revalidations for Indian Studies 151 and 352 for arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures and Indian Studies 331 for social science general education requirements credit and world cultures and moved to approve the requests for provisional validation with direct assessment data due two months after course is next taught. The motion was voted upon and carried with two abstentions.
7. Paper work was received to remove the following courses from general education requirements credit: Pols 305, 306, 309, 310, 404, 405, and 432; Engl 161, 162, 221, 222 and 224.
8. The subcommittee recommended the committee approve an extension for English 302 and 315 to allow the department time to collect data due to retiring faculty member.
The subcommittee recommended the committee return English 241 and 242 to the department for additional information.
The subcommittee recommended approval of English 110, 120 and 125 for revalidation of communication general education requirements credit; Engl 209, 225, 265, 301, 303, 304, 316 and 357 for revalidation of arts and humanities general education requirements credit and Engl 365 for revalidation of arts and humanities general education requirements credit and world cultures.
Greg Gannon moved to approve the subcommittee’s recommendations for the English courses. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.
9. The setup for the new General Education Requirements web page was reviewed.
10. Political Science 225. Olaf Berwald moved to approve PolS 225 for revalidation of social science general education requirements credit and world cultures. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
