Education Requirements Committee February 24

1. A meeting of the GER committee was held on Monday, February 24, in the Edna Twamley Room. Tom Steen presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Sara Hanhan, Mark Hoffmann, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Chuck Moretti, Dean Nichols, Lila Pedersen, Tom Rand and Tom Steen.
3. Minutes of the February 10 meeting. Tom Rand moved to approve the February 10 minutes. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
4. Carl Barrentine and Tom Steen presented Engl 370 for revalidation Anth 370 for validation of arts and humanities general education credit and world cultures credit. Carl Barrentine moved to approve the request. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Chuck Miller presented Political Science 115, 116, 250, 305, 306, 309, 318, 404, 405, and 432 for revalidations for social science general education credit and moved approval of all. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
6. Chuck Miller presented Political Science 311 and 312 for revalidation for arts and humanities general education credit and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
7. Sara Hanhan moved that by March 7 a memorandum from the General Education Committee Chair be sent to each department chair listing the courses up for revalidation next academic year and notifying them that the assessment issue will be required and that the memo be followed up by a phone call from the chair or his delegates in the next week. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
8. Lila Pedersen moved that in subsequent years the same procedure be used but with a 12-month lead time and that this procedure start this fall. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Chuck Miller presented Political Science 220, 225, and 323 for revalidation for social science general education credit and world cultures credit and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
10. Chuck Moretti presented Theatre Arts 110, 130, and 161 for revalidation for arts and humanities general education credit and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
11. Chuck Moretti presented Theatre Arts 250 and 330 for revalidation for arts and humanities general education credit and new validation for world cultures credit. Chuck Moretti moved to approve all of the requests. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
12. The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
