Minutes of General Education Requirements Committee March 24, 2003

 

1.      A meeting of the GER Committee was held on Monday, March 24, in the Edna Twamley Room.  David Pierce presided.

 

2.      Those present at the meeting were Carl Barrentine, Connie Borboa, Sara Hanhan, Wendelin Hume, Chuck Miller, Chuck Moretti, Dean Nichols, Lila Pedersen, David Pierce, Tom Rand and Tom Steen. 

 

3.      Minutes of the March 10 meeting.  Tom Steen moved to approve the March 10 minutes.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

4.      David Pierce will compose a memo to Lana Rakow regarding the Committee’s view on the experiential learning issue.

 

5.      David Pierce presented the memo from Gayle Baldwin requesting world cultures credit for Rels 100 and moved approval of this request.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously. 

 

6.      Chuck Moretti presented Geol 421, 422, and 494 for Communication - Writing and Speaking Intensive – general education credit and moved approval.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

7.      Chuck Moretti presented Musc 490 for Communication – Writing Intensive – general education credit and moved approval. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

8.      Lila Pedersen presented Soc 110, 115, 253, and 361 for Social Science general education credit and moved approval of all. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

9.      Lila Pedersen presented Soc 250 and 340 for Social Science general education credit and world cultures credit and moved approval.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

10.  Lila Pedersen presented Soc 326 for Math, Science, and Technology general education credit and moved approval.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

11.  Carl Barrentine and Tom Steen presented Engl 110, 120 and 125 for Communication general education credit.  Carl Barrentine moved to approve all of the requests.  The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

12. The meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
