Minutes of General
Education Requirements Committee
1. A meeting of the GER Committee was held on September 25, in Carnegie Hall room 102.
Matt Cavalli presided.
2. Those present at the meeting were Suzanne Anderson, Olaf Berwald, Janet Buckmeier, Matt Cavalli, Sara Folkestad, Greg Gagnon, Birgit Hans, Devon Hansen, Joan Hawthorne, Sukhvarsh Jerath, Adam Kitzes, John LaDuke, Lana Rakow, Ryan Zerr and Connie Borboa.
3. Minutes
4. Committee member’s role when validations or revalidations are from their own departments. Joan Hawthorne moved the Committee not make an attempt to exclude a committee member from the room when validations and other matters from their department are being discussed, and to invite the involved faculty from other departments to the relevant meetings. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
5. Student petition. Pettagan De Silva petition for arts and humanities general education requirements credit. Greg Gagnon moved to approve the petition. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
6. IDS 495 validation for social science general education requirements credit. Birgit Hans moved to approve the request. The motion was voted upon and carried with one abstention.
7. Liaison updates. None.
8. Chair elect. Birgit Hans moved to nominate Ryan Zerr to Chair Elect 2007-2008. The motion was voted upon and carried unanimously.
9. Gen Ed frequently asked questions. Joan Hawthorne will bring the questions to the next meeting.
10. Course Listings/Validations on the website. Matt Cavalli sent an e-mail to the Provost and is waiting for a response.
